YEARS HELD AT THIS POSITION
I am a PADI Instructor, the last few years I have been working myself towards applying for my Course Director membership level; which I hope to attend the 2016 intake. I spend the majority of my time in Bundaberg diving locally, however I also spend several months of the year in Vanuatu doing tec related courses, and guiding on the SS President Coolidge. I also orginise any overseas trips Bundaberg Aqua Scuba may have planned.
What drew you into the sport of Scuba Diving?
Having been around water since a very young age, being drawn into SCUBA diving was an inevitable progression into the underwater world. Since learning to dive, I have never looked back!
What is your favourite dive site and why?
My favourite dive site is probably the MV Karma, located roughly an hour and a half’s steam from Bundaberg. This is a 46m gravel barge which sunk, whilst under tow back to Bundaberg to be stripped down and sunk at the Cochrane Artifical Reef. The MV Karma lies in 27m of water, caters for all levels of divers, and has an astounding amount of life.
What is the most memorable dive you have done, and why?
The most memorable dive I have ever had was on my first trip to Vanuatu, and the SS President Coolidge; Seeing the rudder at 60ish meters was an awe inspiring moment, and something I think I will remember for the rest of my life.
What do you love about being a Dive Instructor?
The best part about being a diving instructor is Discover Scuba Diving and Open Water courses. Seeing people experience an entirely new world, and the way that their eyes light up in amazement after their first dive is a great thing to watch.
Where can you see the sport of Scuba Diving heading in the future?
I think the future of sport scuba diving lays in CCR and SCR rebreathers. Due mainly to the fact that Joe diver will get extended dive times, and having no bubbles, and a quieter unit, will allow the diver to get closer to any marine life, and get a more ‘up close and personal’ experience.
