Rob Timmers

I started diving in 1984 and whilst I have been very fortunate to dive many exotic locations around the world, I’m still passionate about my local diving here in Victoria and love to get out diving in my own backyard.
I have operated a family run business in Gippsland, SEAL Diving Services for the last 20 years, introducing both new and experienced divers to magnificent dives around Phillip Island, Inverloch and Wilsons Promontory.

What drew you into the sport of Scuba Diving?

I was regularly snorkelling and exploring the Gippsland Lakes and coastal areas. Learning to scuba dive gave me the opportunity to stay underwater longer than snorkelling.

What is your favourite dive site and why?

My favourite dive location is Wilsons Prom. The scenery above and below the waterline is outstanding. Amazing variety of fish life, shallow and deep shipwrecks to explore and huge swim throughs.

What is the most memorable dive you have done, and why?

One of my most memorable dives was taking my daughter Kelsea diving with tiger sharks in Fiji.

What do you love about being a Dive Instructor?

A PADI dive instructor since 1986, I still love the educational role in all facets of teaching, from kids bubble blowers through to technical diving. Nothing beats see the excitement on the face of a diver taking their first breath on scuba or having an amazing underwater encounter with marine life.

Where can you see the sport of Scuba Diving heading in the future?

In the future I can see more widespread use of rebreathers in the recreational market, allowing divers extended dive opportunities to enjoy our awesome underwater environment. I hope to see a greater focus on marine conservation preserving our aquatic environment for many generations to come.
